With the longer days and the weather heating up, there’s no doubt that summer is finally here! And what better way to enjoy the sunshine than a homemade pizza straight from a pizza oven. Pizzas taste much better when cooked from a pizza oven: it gives it a crispy crust with a smokier flavour, plus you get to enjoy the outdoors whilst you cook it.

To help you get started, we’ve listed 5 of our favourite pizza toppings that will get you sizzling into summer:

1. Breakfast Pizza

Breakfast can easily be served all day when you have a pizza oven, and who says you can’t have pizza for breakfast?!
You’ll need:

  • 15 grams of butter
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1x 11-inch thin prepared pizza crust
  • 6 thinly sliced cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices bacon, crisply cooked, cut into 1-inch pieces

Whisk eggs and milk together in bowl and cook with the butter on the hob or BBQ, set aside.
Place pizza crust onto pizza oven; top with 4 slices cheese, cooked eggs and bacon.
Cut remaining 2 slices cheese into quarters; separate pieces. Place cheese pieces over pizza. Bake 9-11 minutes or until cheese is melted.

2. Beet pesto pizza with goats cheese

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup beet pesto
  • 2 cups kale leaves thinly sliced
  • 1.5 cups mozzarella cheese grated
  • 2 ounces goat cheese

Bake the dough for 5 to 7 minutes with no toppings. Remove the crust from the oven and spread the beet pesto over it. Add the kale leaves, followed by the goat cheese and mozzarella. Note: the kale will cook down in the pizza oven.Bake pizza for 10-15 minutes or to desired crisp.

3.  Ham, mushroom and rocket
You’ll need:

  • 75g basil pesto
  • 75g mushrooms, sliced
  • a handful cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 100g ham, chopped
  • a handful rocket

Spread your base with the pesto. Top with ham, mushrooms, tomatoes and some seasoning. Bake as above then top with a handful of rocket.

4. Beef, basil, tomato & mozzarella
You’ll need:

  • 200g lean beef mince
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 75g passata
  • handful cherry tomato, halved
  • 100g mozzarella, torn
  • basil leaves, to serve (optional)

Spread passata over your base. Top with cooked mince mixture, tomatoes and mozzarella. Season and bake in the pizza oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with some basil leaves and serve.

5. Smokin’ chilli chicken and sweetcorn 
You’ll need:

  • 100g barbecue sauce
  • 1-2 tbsp chipotle paste, or more if you like it spicy
  • 2 large ready-made pizza bases
  • 175g mozzarella, grated (ready-grated is fine)
  • 200g can sweetcorn, drained
  • 300g jar red pepper, drained and torn into slices
  • 200g cooked sliced chicken
  • small pack coriander, leaves only

Scatter the mozzarella over the pizzas, then top with the sweetcorn, peppers and chicken.
Bake for 15 mins, or until the cheese has melted and the pizza is piping hot. Scatter with the coriander and the green chillies, if you like it extra spicy.
